CAIRO: The Information Office of the General Command of the Libyan National Army (LNA) has revealed that Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar has received a message from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, which it described as “important.”

The message, whose contents are unknown, was delivered by the director of military intelligence in Egypt, Maj. Gen. Khaled Megawer, at the Libyan Army’s General Command office.

The message comes two days following the visit of Qatar’s Defense Minister Khalid Al-Attiya and his Turkish counterpart Hulusi Akar to Tripoli, to meet with Turkish-backed Al-Wefaq officials.

The LNA, led by Haftar, said that the meeting of the defence ministers of Qatar and Turkey with Fayez Al-Sarraj, head of the Government of National Accord, was tantamount to preparing for an attack on army positions in Sirte and Al-Jufra.

An Egyptian source announced on Tuesday that a rumored Qatari-Turkish agreement to give control the Libyan port of Misrata to Ankara was a threat to the entire region.

The source told the official Middle East News Agency that he was surprised by the reports following the visit of the Turkish and Qatari defense ministers to Tripoli.

He pointed out that any decision in this regard would be a violation of the Skhirat Agreement and any relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
